episode 65: And deer friends

You can find many signs of Polish presence in Irish society nowadays. Great number of Poles caused Irish companies to translate documents available so far only in English and/or Gaelic. Adverts in newspapers, billboards, tv commercials, road or warning signs in Polish are a common thing now. You can order cable tv with Polish channels or ask for Polish speaking agent when dealing with somebody from call centre. Vue cinemas in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre had trial screenings with Polish subtitles about two years ago. Although they eventually dropped the idea, the whole "watching movies in your native language when abroad" experience was surreal. No wonder some Polish don't bother to learn English.

And when I thought nothing can ever surprise me, Tommy Tiernan - Irish comedian released a dvd lately with no other but... Polish subtitles! Hail to the king!!!

deer = beer*
